As the co-chairs of Beth Or’s Outreach/Interfaith Committee, our goal is to make the synagogue a comfortable, welcoming place for the non-Jewish as well as the Jewish members of our interfaith families. We try to organize programs that are informative and fun; that appeal to many segments of the congregation in addition to interfaith couples; that help dispel some of the mysteries of the synagogue, Jewish religious practice and American Jewish culture (some of which are just as mysterious to Jews as to non-Jews); and that promote friendships among us all. We also co-sponsor and co-promote programs with other synagogue organizations that believe will interest our interfaith community.

 

In addition, we provide opportunities for interfaith families to discuss situations that are unique to them, such as the “December Dilemma”, the special concerns of non-Jewish mothers who are raising Jewish children, the issues facing grandparents whose grandchildren are growing up in an interfaith home, and more.
