A Message for Families of Special Needs Students
Children with special needs - learning, physical, or emotional - have found Beth Or’s special needs program extremely helpful, enabling them to learn side by side with their peers to the best of their abilities. In addition, all Jewish children with special needs can participate in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah process here. The Emily Cara Garbose Special Needs Program at Beth Or is a warm, nurturing and welcoming learning environment where Jewish education is made accessible to all children regardless of their special needs.
Our Special Needs Coordinator is available to work with classroom teachers on an on-going basis. Together, they may modify instructional materials and expectations, develop independent programs or create small group or individual tutoring situations. With the continuing support of the Lassin Philanthropic Foundation, we have been able to provide our children with additional resources, adaptations and accommodations which include, but are not limited to, special education teachers and aides on Monday and Tuesday afternoons in our Hebrew program, and on Sunday mornings in our Judaic studies program.
Each child is encouraged to maximize his or her learning potential. Some children benefit from a self-contained classroom, while others are partially or completely mainstreamed with support. Needs are varied, but they will have the opportunity to participate fully in the educational, spiritual and social activities at our Religious School.
Please speak with our Director of Religious School, Aaron Nielsenshultz about your child's needs. He can be reached at [email protected].
